Recycled Foam PVC : Environmental considerations and information

Recycled foam PVC board is a dense, rigid sheet made from PVC in a selection of colours for internal and external applications. Some options for Recycled PVC include white pvc facings for direct printing.

Various sizes of Recycled PVC are available in thicknesses from 1mm to 19mm

Recycled PVC is generally made from up to 80% recovered PVC materials.

Points to consider when selecting Recycled foam PVC board

Reduce of recycled foam PVC board

Compared to Ultra Board, Recycled PVC is heavy. 6mm thick Rigid PVC weighs in the region of 3kg/m2 and 18mm thick Rigid PVC weighing 9kg/m2. Foam PVC versions will weigh about half of this weight versus Ultra Board at 1kg/m2 and 1.4kg/m2 respectively.

Re-use of recycled foam PVC board

There are many applications where plain sheets of Recycled PVC can be re-used

Recycled PVC can be recycled again, although collection systems are not as well established as paper recovery systems at end user level. Where collection systems are developing at Sign and print company level care is often required in material segregation, as some substrate manufacturers will only accept return of their own products.

Recovery is clearly improving as a number of Recycled PVC Board products are appearing.

If recycling is not an option, Landfill tax can be expensive given the weight of Recycled PVC.
